Rwanda: U.S. $300,000 for Girls’ Education

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Rwanda chapter has received US$300,000 from the US Government to support girls’ education in the country.

This latest disbursement will cater for the scholarship - fees and materials, mentorship and HIV/AIDS awareness programmes of 1,285 young girls, the programme officer in charge of scholarship and mentoring progamme, FAWE Rwanda Ms. Jane Mutoni revealed to East African Business Week during an interview at her offices in Kigali on August 21. The 1,285 girls are distributed in 59 schools countrywide. The money provided by the US Government is a key component of the US President’s Africa Education Initiative (AEI) program that sponsors needy girls in Rwanda.
