Our educational systems are failing the youth of today when it comes to teaching english as the primary language. Evidence to that is results coming out of TX and the test numbers coming out of their schools are consistently below 50%! There is an alarming rate of dropouts for students that are faced with the challenge of learning english as a second language and the systems in place are failing them.
Are these deficiencies the failure of the school systems in place or is it something bigger than that. Consider this, the country as a whole has made a conscience effort in the last 10 years to enable spanish communication to be acceptable in every aspect of businesses and government. Call a customer service line and 9 times out of 10 there is a selection for what language you speak. Basic signs in public places are more frequently being placed with more than one language.
Somewhere along the way some one decided that it would be easier to implement alternative ways to communicate than to simply educate people as they come to live in the USA. No other country in the world makes such sweeping gestures with other forms of language to communicate in their everyday businesses, governments and society.
Why would anyone feel the need to learn english as their primary language when the whole country is enabling their ability to live and function here with out it? No wonder why we have a generation of students that are failing out of schools for language.
So why did this happen? Money!!!! There is big money in enabling another language. With signs, reading materials, customer service the list goes on and on. There really seems to be no end to this cycle either as it has become an industry onto itself at this point. With millions of jobs and businesses in the balance can there really be a change to the language laws at this point. What is to become of the next generation of kids that are living in the USA and dropping out of schools simply because of the language barrier?
