Top 3 Fun And Educational Game Sites

I was looking for a collection of fun and educational games on the web today and needless to say there are more than a few sites to go through. So I grabbed myself a couple cups of coffee today and spent some time visiting a couple of top listed sites that proclaim to have fun games that are educational as well.

Before I get started on writing about what sites I visited and which site that I discovered to have the most enjoyable and what I think are educational games I would like to say wow! There are a lot of education based gaming sites out there, a lot more than what I was expecting. I mean when you think about gaming especially on the internet I think about flash game sites like pogo.com or miniclip.com two of the more popular gaming sites that I know of. I was really unaware of how big the market had become for educational games, my how times have changed!

When I was growing up games especially those of the video type were pretty much considered a cheap side show attraction that was fun for entertaining kids and that was about it. They were really the last medium that any adult would have thought of as a legitimate form of education.

Now thanks in most part I believe to a little hand held gaming system called the Nintendo DS and it’s main stream appeal and it’s rather large library of educational games like Brain Age. The concept of using a video game to assist in the educational development of not only young kids but people of all ages has become big business. Anyway I just thought I would share that little thought that came across my brain as I cruise through the list of links ( thanks Google!) to popular fun(debatable on some) and educational gaming sites.

The first place that I spent some time at was a site called the FunBrain and my first thought when visiting this site for the first time was that it was another version of those other flash game sites that I mentioned earlier. Only this was clearly built for a specific age group that being for the grade school kids. I played through a few of the games seeing how I have a child that is in the first grade now I figured this looked like a good site for the old bookmark folder. Needless to say it was a good choice as I showed it to my daughter after she came home from school today and she spent a good hour before dinner buzzing through the math arcade game, nice it’s already kid approved :-D

The second site on the list (did I say thanks to Google for my list ;-) ) ahem, yes I spent a lot of time researching my list of games. It went something like hmmm….. educational games….click! Anyway the second one on my extensive list was for a site called primarygames.com and again the first thing that comes to mind when you open this site up is wow lots of flash games only this site is a bit more in your face with it’s colors and variety of games. It’s almost a little too busy in terms of being able to identify where you want to go but that’s just personal preference I suppose, I prefer a simpler easy to maneuver site but hey that’s just me.

For example looking at sites like that appear very busy with their color trying to get your attention to click on one thing or the other. Is very confusing for young kids that are not exactly web savvy yet and the concept of a pop up window and that you should not click on them kind of escapes children at the younger age. Let’s just say it’s happened on more than one occasion where I stepped away from my daughter playing a game on the internet to come back a few minutes later to find a dozen or so pop ups suddenly active. Yikes! Any way if you can get past the busy appearance of the primary games website there were a lot of fun educational games. I actually found them to have a bit of a wider variety of games, still they are mostly geared towards the grade school crowd again.

The third and final site in my extensive list of fun educational games was the biggest surprise to me and definitely not a site that I would have associated with a place to find games to play online. Yet when you go to the educational games section of the Nobel Prize.org site you will realize that it is actually the most logical place to find some fun educational games. As the site itself puts it you don’t have to be a genius to understand some of the amazing concepts behind some of the most brilliant minds of our time.

I found the games not only to be a fun use of flash based gaming but the games were very educational with the way they were presented. A lot of the general facts that are shared during the game play are on bit more of an adult level of presentation along with the facts that are shared.

For example some of the popular fun educational games listed on the Nobel Prize site are the Diabetic Dog game where you learn not only how to take care of a diabetic dog but how to treat diabetes. Another rather clever game that was not only fun but managed to share a lot of information about the ins and outs of laser technology is a game called The Laser Challenge Game, now don’t let that fancy title mislead you it’s actually a pretty fun game. Anyway there is quite a collection of fun and educational games at the Noble Prize site and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some out of the ordinary fun and educational games, enjoy :-D
